The "Quality Health Care Coalition Act"
|

|
Congressman Tom Campbell (R-CA) has introduced legislation into this Congress that can potentially affect every Orthopedic surgeon in this country.
This bill, if it becomes law, will allow doctors and other health care professionals to collectively negotiate with insurers, finally allowing us to pool our resources and fight back against the creeping corporate take-over of health care in America.
In his words:
"My proposed legislation, entitled "The Quality Health-Care Coalition Act" (HR 4277), would allow negotiations between a coalition of health-care professionals and a health-care service plan regarding the terms and conditions of a contract between a member of such health-care professionals coalition and a health-care service plan, and to their carrying out such terms and conditions. It's the best way I can see to let the market deal with the complaints so many health care professionals have raised with HMOs. Medical professionals should be allowed to form their own professionals associations and bargain with the HMOs and other organizations in their area rather than have the federal government establish rules that specify the HMO-medical professional relationship."
This bill has more than 200 cosponsors in the House and may actually successfully resist an expected strong assault from the health insurance industry and its many allies.
We can only succeed if you call your representative and senator today, whether they support it or not, and let them know how strongly you support this landmark legislation.
